Managing Director, Governance & Controls, Enterprise Payments

The Head of Governance & Controls for Enterprise Payments will be responsible for the control environment across the Payments Platform. This role involves developing and executing strategic initiatives to enhance the control environment, reduce risk, and ensure compliance with internal and external policies and regulatory mandates.

The successful candidate will be an innovator who will collaborate with senior leadership, the Control Hub, and the corporate staff functions to reimagine and evolve the Payments Platform’s controls environment and contribute to the overall transformation of BNY’s first line of controls ecosystem. This person will be a forward-thinking leader that leverages technology to drive better risk management strategies that positively impact commercial outcomes. 

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Assess, develop, and execute a comprehensive control strategy for the Payments Platform, aligning with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the Payments Platform senior leadership on risk and control matters.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks in the Payments Platform, ensuring robust controls are in place.
  • Ensure compliance with all internal and external policies, procedures, and regulatory mandates.
  • Oversee the development and execution of rigorous control testing programs to validate effectiveness and adherence to standards.
  • Ensure the timely identification, escalation, and remediation of control deficiencies.
  • Drive continuous enhancement of controls derived from compliance oversight and operational risk management programs, including assisting in the completion of assigned regulatory risk assessment activities and review of all supervisory programs, and other key projects.
  • Drive a material reduction in the total amount and severity of open issues through proactive identification and active program management.
  • Report policy and procedure breaches and near-misses, including the coordination, development, and/or implementation of identified remediation.
  • Champion the implementation of advanced automation solutions to enhance control efficiency, reduce manual effort, and streamline testing, monitoring, and reporting processes.
  • Partner with internal audit and external assurance teams to conduct control reviews and audits.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Drives cross cultural communication and implement strategies to promote effective communication across diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring inclusivity and mutual understanding. 

To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 15+ years of experience working in operations or control management within financial services, preferably payments or markets operations.
  • Strong knowledge of payment systems, risk management, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strategic mindset with a track record of driving transformation initiatives.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and providing reporting and updates to senior-level management and Board committees.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, prioritize decisions, and successfully manage multiple projects in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace innovation and manage change.
  • Strong communicator, able to build consensus and drive results through collaboration, influence, and persuasion.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $300,000 and $400,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. 
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
