Overview

The Director of Security manages operations daily. Areas of responsibilities include protection of property assets, employees, guests and property, accident and fire prevention and response. Ensures that all areas of the property are safe and secure. Maintains logs, certifications and documents required by law and Standard Operating Procedures. In the case of any incident, guest or staff, the Director of Loss Prevention is responsible that all details are captured, and logs kept. This, in conjunction with the Director of Finance to meet all reporting requirements of both local municipal bodies and satisfy the needs of the hotel’s primary insurer.  Strives to continually improve guest and employee satisfaction while maximizing the financial performance of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, directs, and manages all department operations. Maintain regular presence throughout the department. 
  • Possess a strong knowledge of internal controls and emergency response procedures. Hire, schedule, evaluate, coach and counsel security personnel.
  • Administers the patrol of the interior of and the perimeter of the hotel and the property to observe and identify potential safety risks, security risks and undesirable conditions
  • Directs and leads investigations of accidents, thefts, property loss and unlawful activities
  • Directs response to emergency situations including, but not limited to, safety hazards, fires, medical emergencies, and threats to life and/or property. Making this the foundation for the life safety and security training conduct each month.
  • Serves as primary liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement
  • Directly supervises all security personnel and develops their department policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the administration and accuracy of all required reports and documentation
  • Respond to guest inquiries and requests in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner
  • Monitors and develops team member performance to include, but not limited to, providing supervision, scheduling, conducting counseling and evaluations and delivering recognition and reward
  • Recruits, interviews, and trains team members Review and maintain security accident and incident reports.
  • In the case of a guest or staff incident. The Director of Loss Prevention is responsible for capturing and recording all details concerning the incident. This, in conjunction with the Director of Finance to meet all reporting requirements of both local municipal bodies and satisfy the needs of the hotel’s primary insurer.
  • Displays and promotes positive patron and employee relations.
  • Responsible for overseeing accidents / near miss investigations property inspections or walkthroughs, job hazard-analysis, and evaluations of work methods for safety compliance.
  • Evaluate and inspect safety programs.
  • If the hotel is sited for any building or code violation the Director will be responsible for having the issue resolved and attesting on behalf of the Hotel should the case be brought before the courts.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in security operations, including 2 years in a leadership role at a 5 star and AAA 4 diamond resort or hotel preferred.
  • Degree/diploma in a related field to security or law enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides knowledge, skills, and ability sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Experience working in a NYC Union environment or similar setting. Specifically, is both proficient in and working with the current edition of NYC CBA / IWA.
  • Must obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and local requirements
  • Must successfully pass background check.
  • Must have the New York City’s certification as a Fire Safety Director

  • Strong command of software applications, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and hotel-specific platforms (MICROS Opera, Sabre/SYNXIS, Delphi, SUN, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers and staff, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Fluency in English: additional languages preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to move throughout the business (standing, walking, kneeling, bending) for extended periods of time.

  • For this New York, New York United States-based position, the expected annual base salary is $100000-$110000.
