Position Summary
The Associate Director of Reforestation Operations (Associate Director) supports the Director of Reforestation Operations and assists with management of the Reforestation Center projectβs budgets, program oversight, personnel, grants, equipment, research, reporting, and facility management. The Associate Director also assists with projects and communications involving local, state, tribal, and federal officials and key partnerships as appropriate. Internal tenured or tenure-track faculty applicants will retain their retreat rights at the end of the contract term to their previous faculty role and rank with salary comparable to their last faculty salary and any additional raises as per the CBA . This is a term position and continuation beyond 30 June 2025 will be contingent upon continued funding availability. Prorated salary will be applied to the annual salary for contracts less than 12 months (e.g., during the applicantβs first year in this position).
Duties And Responsibilities
Performs 1.0 FTE administrative duties as described here; Teaches one course per semester as an overload, payable at the current per course rate; Assists with leadership and implementation of the Reforestation Center project; Assists with coordination and collaborations with the Department of Forestry and other departments as relevant in projects, activities, and initiatives related with the Reforestation Center project; Assists with resource management to include budgets, funding, facilities, and personnel within the Reforestation Center project; Assists with hiring, supervision, and evaluation of staff in the Reforestation Center project; Assists with development of public/private partnerships, MOUs, MOAs, and other contracts, grants, and agreements to further the Reforestation Center project; Works with the Director of Reforestation Operations, NMHU Foundation, NMHU Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, and other offices to seek and secure funding for the Center; Serves as an investigator on NMHUβs grants as appropriate; Works with faculty and students to develop research projects to support the Reforestation Center and related areas; Other duties as assigned in support of the Reforestation Center and related initiatives and projects.
Physical Demands
Must be capable of working outdoors in forested and/or post-fire environments year-round in all weather conditions as needed; Must be capable of engaging in reforestation-related field work as needed for trainings, operations, etc., including being capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and successful project management in the fields of forest regeneration and reforestation; Demonstrated network and established working relationships with institutions and individuals involved in reforestation activities in the southwestern United States.
