Southside Unlimited is a non-profit and we are hiring for a rare opportunity to join an administrative team of dedicated professionals! We are seeking a qualified Accounting Director that will be a critical member to the organization and the lead in all things financial. This is an exempt full time position.

Job Duties

  • Under the direction of the CEO and COO, oversee Accounting Department operations, including general ledger, financial closing, tax planning, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
  • Update, verify and maintain accounting journals and ledgers and other financial records.
  • Sort, code and enter accounts payable data, and analyzes discrepancies and unpaid invoices.
  • Set up new clients and vendors following established policy and procedures.
  • Compile and enter all receipt, invoices, and account information.
  • Process outgoing checks and invoices based on company criteria.
  • Perform all necessary account, bank and other reconciliations and activities.
  • Process art sales and artist sales payouts based on gallery procedures.
  • Assist in the production of periodic financial reports and ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting.
  • Assist in producing monthly budget and forecasts and report significant budget differences to executive team.
  • Maintain and monitor customer and vendor accounts for errors, verify accuracy and reconcile differences through follow-up with customers, vendors and/or other employees.
  • Process payroll and maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, entering, and reviewing data on payroll software systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other payroll deductions including employee insurance premiums, 403(b) contributions, employee loans and miscellaneous deductions.
  • Reconcile payroll journals to general ledger monthly.
  • Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identify and recommend updates to accounting software, systems, and procedures.
  • Prepare reports by analyzing and compiling summaries of financial data.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Qualifications:

  • Five plus (5+) years of experience in accounting management, familiar with QuickBooks Desktop
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or related degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and time management skills.
  • Proficient with tax and other state and federal filings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
    • Experience with excel and creating/maintaining budgets
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of employees/management and effectively disseminate information
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Knowledge of GAAP theories and practices
  • Hold a valid Driver's License with proof of car insurance and vehicle registration
