The Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California (USC) is seeking postdoctoral scholar(s) to join our scholarly community (http://chan.usc.edu/). The scholars will serve on the newly launched USC Chan Initiative entitled Responding to Society’s Post- Pandemic Occupational Needs (ReSPONs). ReSPONs was created to address pressing societal needs at the intersection of the public health, economic, and racial pandemics affecting society. Scholars will engage in research that addresses occupational disruptions and health disparities, particularly in disadvantaged, disproportionately affected, or under-represented populations. The primary responsibility is to accelerate the creation of innovations to address the ongoing needs of individuals, families, and communities, as the chronic effects of these pandemics will continue to impact health and well-being and occupational engagement in the coming years. Scholars from diverse and underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Candidates should demonstrate a track-record of scholarship and a strong commitment to contributing to socially responsive and community engaged research and program development. We are seeking established individuals who thrive in contemporary interdisciplinary academic arenas, can produce impactful findings, and facilitate knowledge translation to critical health or societal issues. Preference will be given to scholars who are recognized experts in occupational science, occupational therapy, health equity/social justice, health promotion, and disability studies. Consideration will be given to the alignment of the candidate’s scholarship with the work of potential faculty mentors.

Applicants must have a research doctoral degree or equivalent (e.g., PhD, ScD) in an area applicable to occupational science or occupational therapy, be able to articulate existing/potential contributions to these fields through projected research and identify potential mentors from within the division. The term of the appointment will be for two years. Mentorship in all phases of scholarship will be provided. Opportunities for seed money and to participate in grantsmanship will be available. The Chan Division continues to thrive and has implemented a strategic plan that is grounded in our tripartite mission of leading innovation and promoting synergies in research, education, and practice. We are seeking applicants who are poised to substantively contribute to our endeavors and benefit from the affordances of our enriching environments.

The Chan Division has an active, engaged program to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity. We particularly encourage persons of color and members of underrepresented groups to apply.

Interested individuals should provide a cover letter describing their interest in the position along with their CV.

Applications are encouraged by December 1 and will be accepted until position(s) are filled.  Anticipated hire date: July 1, 2024.
