JOB TITLE: Director of Programs Strategy and Impact
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
STATUS: Full-Time/ Exempt
COMPENSATION: $135,525/annually, including paid medical insurance as well as paid time off (vacation, health, & holidays)
SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, some weekends/ evenings required
Position Description: The Director of Programs Strategy and Impact is a key leadership position on the Center’s staff, with core responsibility for sustaining and expanding the Center’s programs in alignment with the agency’s mission, long-term vision and commitment to racial justice and equity. The Director of Programs Strategy and Impact provides high-level oversight and coordination of the Center’s programs including Economic Development (Employment and Financial Services), Youth Services, Cultural Programs and Community Programs (resource navigation, wellness, community building). The Director of Programs Strategy and Impact plays a key role in aligning diverse programs to create common standards and systems, managing government and private foundation contracts, program evaluation, and program impact. The Director of Programs Strategy and Impact reports to the Executive Director and oversees a program team of 27 with 5 direct reports, including the Director of Employment Services, Director of Financial Services, Director of Community Programs, Director of Cultural Programs and Director of Youth Services. This is an executive leadership position, and the Director of Programs Strategy and Impact supports the SF LGBT Center’s organizational values that include a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, commitment to serve the most vulnerable, and accountability and transparency.
Essential Job Functions:
Overall responsibility for developing and administering the Center’s programs (as defined above), including program development, planning, execution and evaluation. Support program directors in developing and tracking annual program plans and budgets, including alignment of programs with agency mission and values and grant and external commitments.
Hire, train, supervise, coach and evaluate program directors. Work with program directors to ensure that programs are effective, sustainable, achieve the desired impact and are aligned with the Center’s overall mission and priorities. Model and cultivate a strong and healthy workplace culture with a whole-person approach to management and supervision. Support program directors in building strong and healthy teams and incorporate organizational values and priorities in team functions and management. Build, empower and foster program teams to achieve desired programmatic and community impact.
Oversee evaluation and data management practices to ensure that program activities and impact are documented, that effective evaluation processes are implemented, and that programs perform against anticipated outcomes.
Build and nurture effective and strong relationships with external stakeholders, including public and private funders, coalitions, collaborative partners and community representatives. Represent the Center externally in a variety of settings including meetings, hearings and conferences with collaborative partners, policy makers and funders.
Support capacity-building efforts by identifying new or expanded opportunities for support of the Center’s programs, maintaining relationships with key funders and supporting grant writing and other program funding initiatives.
Contribute to the overall strategic leadership, management and direction of the Center. Partner with the Executive Director to achieve program strategies and goals, and interface with the Center’s Board of Directors on appropriate issues.
Coordinate department activities with other agency teams including Development, Communications and Finance teams.
Serve as a member of the Center’s leadership team, including engaging program teams in agency initiatives and projects.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Understanding of the needs of vulnerable LGBT communities, strategies to meet their needs, and demonstrated ability to work with a broad range of constituents, program participants, and stakeholders representing the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ and allied communities.
Proven skills related to program development, planning, budgeting, execution and evaluation.
At least five years' experience with budget, contract and program management.
Professional experience in one or more of the Center’s program areas, including: economic development (employment services, small business support, financial capacity building, economic development) youth services, arts & culture, community development.
At least five years' experience of providing leadership and supervision to a diverse staff, with demonstrated ability to build strong teams and support professional development for program staff.
Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build strategic relationships and partnerships with individuals and organizations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented organizational structure.
Ability to think critically, analyze problems, and contribute to agency leadership.
Innovative and entrepreneurial approach, including solution-oriented approaches to complex issues. Commitment to alternative organizational structures and leadership models that share power and decision making with team members effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is primarily office based at the Center’s 1800 Market Street location with an ability to negotiate a schedule of remote work up to a maximum of 20% time.
Essential physical requirements:
Must be able to operate a computer and other common office machinery such as a copier/fax/printer up to eight hours/day daily.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of several hours daily.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
Must be able to work in a shared office space with 3 or more employees in the same office with moderate levels of noise.

Hours are primarily Monday – Friday with regular need for evening or weekend work. Work schedules are negotiable within a standard 8:00 am – 7:00 pm window.
Local travel may be required for meetings or offsite events. Out of town travel is infrequent and negotiable. No car required.
