Qualifications & Compensation
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field; and
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in systems analysis, design and computer support/operations, including five years of administrative and supervisory experience as a Manager, Assistant Director or Director of an Information Technology Department with 10+ staff members.
- Proven experience working with a successful organization-wide conversion and the fragmentation it causes following the conversion required.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Nevada state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record.

$119,909 - $194,521 per year (depending on qualifications)

About the Information Technology Department
The department is comprised of 61 positions with several areas of specialties to include administration, technical support, application development support, Oracle support, database administration, network administration, security administration and system administration.
Exciting initiatives are underway! We are implementing Workday, transitioning from Google to Microsoft, upgrading our telephone systems, and exploring an enterprise-wide electronic document management solution. This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on, visionary leader to drive innovation, lead transformative projects, and make a lasting impact on our city.
Other areas of opportunities and challenges for this position include –
- Develop a clear understanding of the needs of department heads/department business users through consultation with various department heads and department personnel.
- Assess the technology needs to develop a more defined, long-term City-wide IT strategy.
- Influence participatory, strategic and centralized decision-making of Communications Technology and Information Systems.
- Build and shape the future direction and effectiveness of communications capabilities of the City and its departments.
- Oracle migration and Document management.
- Department is partially unionized. Non-management employees work within a collective bargaining agreement.
- Some systems are outdated or duplicative. Director needs to influence and develop a ‘holistic view’ of in-formation, technology and enterprise systems within in the City to more efficient and effectively provide services across all departments.

Our Governing Board
The City of North Las Vegas was incorporated in 1946 and operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor and four (4) non-partisan Council Members are elected to serve a 4-year term. The Mayor is elected by City voters at large, and four (4) Council members are selected by the voters by Wards. Terms are staggered and citywide elections are held every two (2) years.
The five-member City Council is the legislative, or policy-making body of the City and may enact and enforce ordinances and resolutions necessary for the operation and management of municipal affairs. Council members also serve on numerous Boards, Intergovernmental agencies and associations to further the interests of the City of North Las Vegas.
The City Manager is appointed by the City Council and serves as the Chief Executive Officer to oversee daily municipal operations. The City Manager manages 1,600 employees in 19 departments.
