Overview:
SAR Academy- SAR High School, a co-educational day school in Riverdale, NY is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Director to oversee security and safety operations across its two campuses. With nearly 1,700 students, from Infant Toddler through 12th grade, the school requires a vigilant and proactive leader to ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, and visitors. The Security Director will be responsible for regularly reviewing and planning and implementing security improvements as needed including management of security grants provided by New York City, New York State and the Department of Homeland Security.
Leadership and Management:
- Oversee and manage the security team, which includes personnel contracted through a private security company as well and NYPD Paid Detail units.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to security staff to ensure adherence to protocols and best practices.
- Conduct regular training and drills to ensure the security team is well-prepared to handle various security and safety scenarios.
-Develop and maintain effective communication channels with security team members, school administration, and relevant stakeholders.
Security Operations:
-Develop and implement security protocols and procedures to safeguard students, staff, and property on both campuses.
-Monitor and supervise security personnel to ensure appropriate coverage of posts and adherence to security protocols.
-Conduct regular assessments of security vulnerabilities and implement measures to mitigate risks.
-Oversee the monitoring of school premises, including parking lots, perimeters, and access points.
-Manage the vetting process for guests and visitors to the school, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
Safety Management:
-Coordinate with Transportation Manager to ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of students, including managing traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
-Develop and implement emergency response plans for various scenarios, including medical emergencies, lockdowns, and evacuations.
-Work closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders to coordinate responses to security and safety incidents.
-Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as criminal justice, security management, or related discipline.
-5+ years experience in security management, preferably in an educational or similar environment.
-Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
-Knowledge of security protocols, procedures, and best practices.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
-Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards pertaining to security and safety.
-Familiarity with applicable security grant programs including: Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes, Nonprofit Security Grant (NSGP), NPSE, NYC DCAS Grant ProgramCertification in CPR, First Aid, and other relevant emergency response protocols is desirable.
This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Executive Director. The Security Director will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of the school community and maintaining a secure learning environment for all students and staff.
