This is an exiting opportunity to provide Addiction and Psychiatric support to clients who are dually diagnosed, suffering from addiction disorders, and/or mental illness across 3 Bay Area counties. HealthRIGHT 360 offers services to clients in a variety of settings including Crisis stabilization, Residential and Outpatient treatment programs, and medical clinics. Clients served include those who lack housing, are members of the API community, or are members of the Latinx community. The Addiction Psychiatry Director provides leadership and oversight over these myriad programs.

The Director of Addiction Medicine SM/SC/Alameda is an Addiction Psychiatrist who is primarily responsible for the provision and support of the treatment of mental illness and substance-related and addictive disorders at HealthRIGHT 360 in SM/SC/Alameda County. This is accomplished through an understanding and promotion of mental health and substance-related and addictive disorders team-based care, monitoring of the certification and clinical skills of providers, participation in the performance improvement process, assisting in the development of policies and procedures used to ensure quality patient care, and supporting primary care providers in the treatment of mental illness and substance-related and addictive disorders. The Director of Addiction Medicine SM/SC/Alameda County will act as a liaison between behavioral health services and medical/primary care services, as well as provide education and support for all therapists, drug counselors, and health and wellness coordinators in the outpatient and residential behavioral health programs. The Director of Addiction Medicine SM/SC/Alameda County will provide oversight of Medically Assisted Treatment to those enrolled in the behavioral health residential facilities, outpatient programs following Incidental Medical Services regulations set forth by the Department of Healthcare Services in SM/SC/Alameda County. May be required to work nights and weekends. Participates in afterhours call rotation.

         

Key Responsibilities

    

Leadership/Management:

  • Acts as primary liaison between behavioral health and medical/primary care programs. Is the primary resource for behavioral health programs regarding the medical treatment of mental illness and substance-related and addictive disorders.
  • Provides clinical support to Health and Wellness coordinators, including any nursing staff in behavioral health facilities.
  • Medical Director of record for SM/SC/Alameda County behavioral health programs.
  • Oversees all health and wellness personnel in the behavioral health residential or outpatient programs.
  • Leads and supports behavioral health, addiction, and medical system integration.

Addiction Director Role and Medical Practice:

  • Provide Medically Assisted Treatment to patients suffering from Substance -Related and Addictive Disorders.
  • Provides psychiatric care to patients suffering from mental illness.
  • Provide consultation and support of Primary care team to treat and support patients with mental illness or those being treated with medical assisted treatment.
  • Support care coordination for patients from behavioral health programs to primary care.
  • Provide in services to primary care providers regarding mental illness and medically assisted treatments for Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders, including basics, updates, and advances in care.

Behavioral Health:

  • Provides or signs off on medical screening for patients entering behavioral health outpatient services, assessing their mental illness, substance use disorder, candidacy for medically assisted treatment, and linking them to primary care.
  • Work along behavioral health leadership to create policies and procedures to support integration of care.
  • In accordance with regulations, provide medical services, especially Medically Assisted Treatment to patients in behavioral health residential programs.
  • Act as a consultant and support behavioral health personnel providing care to patients who are receiving Medically Assisted Treatment in the residential facilities and outpatient services.
  • Acts as consultant for medical concerns occurring in behavioral health facilities and supporting triaging of patients in order to reduce inappropriate emergency room referrals.

 

         

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    

Education and Experience Required:

  • M.D. or D. O. degree from accredited United States medical school.
  • Successfully completed internship and residency at accredited United States Internship or Residency Program.
  • Three to five years’ experience as a licensed primary care psychiatrist and addiction medicine specialist.
  • Two years’ experience in supervisory and/or management position.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Board Certified in psychiatry.
  • Board certified or registered in addiction medicine, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid and active California medical license, without any limitations on license to practice in designated specialty.
  • Eligible to participate in the CMS Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement programs.
  • Valid and active DEA license with X waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.
